Navigation bronchoscopy will support the evaluation of lung nodules. Fortis Hospitals Bengaluru has launched a dedicated Lung Nodule Clinic to support the early detection, evaluation and management of lung nodules through a multidisciplinary approach. Led by Dr. Srivatsa Lokeshwaran, Director of Interventional Pulmonology, the clinic brings together specialists in Interventional Pulmonology, Thoracic Surgery, Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Radiology and Pathology. It also uses advanced diagnostic technologies, including navigation bronchoscopy, to coordinate care from evaluation and diagnosis through treatment planning. Lung nodules are small abnormal areas in the lungs that are often detected incidentally during imaging for other medical conditions. While many are benign and may result from infections or other non-cancerous conditions, some can be an early sign of lung cancer. During its six-month pilot phase, the clinic evaluated 38 patients with lung nodules. Of these, 19 were diagnosed with lung cancer, 10 had infectious lesions and nine had non-cancerous nodules. The clinic aims to distinguish cancerous nodules from benign or infectious lesions and support timely treatment planning.
